About the Role
You’ll be the person who shapes someone’s very first impression of Leatherback Travel - the first contact someone has with our company and values. We need someone who not only understands recruitment, but who deeply cares about who we let onto the team.
Before we start.. Here’s what you should know
OK, so let’s be clear.
You’re a recruiter.
You’ve read thousands of job descriptions.
You’ve seen companies promise the world and deliver none of it.
You need to understand that Leatherback is not like this.
If you’re looking to work at a company that takes the job of hiring the right people seriously - like, REALLY - seriously, you’ll really love it here.
And if you’re wanting to set people up for jobs that are GENUINELY exciting, and work with candidates who are seriously pumped about the opportunity to work with us, you’re going to like Leatherback… a LOT.
We’re not looking for a corporate ‘copy paste recruiter’.
The person you’re going to be replacing has done an incredible job for us. (*She is leaving for health reasons.)
And we’re not looking to take a step backwards and hire someone who doesn’t see recruitment as a vocation.
We’re looking for someone who is real, genuine, enthusiastic and who actually wants to work for a company that is a breath of fresh air.
You’ll need to actually care about the people you put into roles.
In exchange, we’ll give you very exciting roles to promote and a low turnover environment which means you’re not constantly having to replace people who are quitting all the time.
So, please keep all of this in mind as you read the rest of this job ad.
What You’ll Be Doing

- Make it easy for the right people to find us and feel excited to apply
- Be the gatekeeper of the company, protecting our culture. You’ll be the first filter for to make sure candidates align with our company values.
- Manage our company Linkedin with thoughtful content about our brands, trips, people, and culture.
- Implement and improve systems
- Help build and grow our employer brand
- Help make sure every candidate, even the rejected ones, walk away thinking, “That was one of the most respectful, thoughtful recruitment processes I’ve experienced.”

About Our Culture
Our culture is a bit different to the average company.
- We don’t have Mission Statements, Vision Statements, or.. any of that nonsense. While we believe strongly in knowing what we value, we try to avoid Corporate BS like the plague. In fact, if you’re sick of working for companies that put their so-called ‘Values’ on the wall but then completely ignore them in the day-to-day business operations, you’re going to love working here.
- Embrace our Principles. Our company is different, in a good way. But to keep it that way, we need all team members to embrace our ideas and work to implement them every day.
- Work on the Business, As a Team, Every Week. You may have previously worked at companies where the biggest, most important things never happen - because there’s always something ‘urgent’, what truly matters falls by the wayside. Well, not here. And that’s only possible because all of us pitch in, every day, to make our systems work better.
The future for Leatherback Travel is huge. We are not just launching new brands; we are doing it with a purpose. We don't want to just take our customers to the best places… We want to build and create new experiences to share with the world. Our goal is to build walking trails, hiking lodges and create completely new travel routes in places that are unexplored and unappreciated.
Our team works remotely and right now consists of 40 people excited about their work, split between Australia and Europe. Our culture is special, and is the right fit for those who are looking to do the best work of their lives.
